Yarn Hearts

Yarn Hearts

What you will need:

Wax Paper

Plastic Placemat (not necessary, but nice to have)

Black Sharpie

Yarn ( For us, the thinner the yarn, the better the hearts kept their shape in the end)

Disposable Plastic Container or Cup ( I used a plastic food storage container found in the grocery store next to food storage bags)

Mod Podge

Water

What to do:

*Draw your hearts with a black sharpie onto wax paper. This will be your guide when creating the yarn hearts, so make sure the hearts that you draw reflect the size that you want your yarn hearts to be.

*Place wax paper onto plastic placemat for extra protection

*Pour Mod Podge into plastic container. Add water.

(I did not measure, but I can give you a rough estimate. I am guessing I used about a cup of Mod Podge and about a 1/3 cup of water)

*Give a good stir. I used a foam brush, but a plastic utensil (knife, fork or spoon) would work well too.

*Cut long strands of yarn and place into Mod Podge. Be sure they are generously coated and wring out any excess liquid.

*Place soaked yarn onto wax paper and shape into heart.

*Repeat each step until you have made as many hearts as you desire.

*Let dry  (We did this project in the afternoon and the hearts were dry by the morning)

*Once hearts are dry, gently peel hearts from wax paper.

* You can use yarn to hang the hearts to create a nice, festive display.

Let’s take a peek at the work in progress and the finished hearts!

Well, what do you think? Pretty simple, right? I think they are so pretty and delicate, yet they make such a festive statement. My kids are so proud of their creations and they are so happy that they are on display for all to see.

Let me know if you give this a try. If you would like to share photos of your completed hearts, I would love to see them!! Feel free to post to my Facebook Page, or tag me on Twitter or Instagram.

Be Grateful. Give Love.

Wishing you all a Happy Valentine’s Day!
